Letter to the Editor: Questions about wind power

2 mins read

If Industrial Wind Power is so good for us, then why all the secrecy?

Why was LD2283, the creation of the Expedited Permit Area [covering nearly 2/3 of the State] passed in 15 days, as emergency legislation, with no debate, and virtually no public notification?

Why are people not being told about the negative environmental and economic impacts of these Industrial Projects?

Why are State agencies turning a blind eye to the damages done to wetlands, endangered species, and fragile mountain environments?

Why is it necessary for Industrial Wind Developers to give large “no strings attached” grants to businesses and organizations who might have reason to speak out in opposition to these projects?

Why won’t the Wind Industry release the numbers showing the efficiency [or inefficiency, as the case may be] of their Turbines? The University of Maine at Presque Isle recently released the numbers for their $2 million turbine, after its first year of operation. Actual production came in 65 percent BELOW expectations!

Something stinks here, and it is time that the People of the State of Maine demanded answers, and demanded that our lawmakers and regulators be held accountable for their pandering to the Wind Industry.

We are being duped folks, and if we don’t speak up now, it will soon be too late.
