FARMINGTON – The Farmington Recreation Department recently wrapped up its annual Jr. Pro Basketball Program for children in second through sixth grades. There were 58 players in Division I, which consists of second and third graders. In Division II we had 48 players grades fourth through sixth. Also, this year the Prep Basketball program registered 23 first graders as well as 10 kindergartners in our newest Start Smart Basketball Program called the Lil’ Shooters.
During the season-ending awards ceremony, the Farmington Recreation Department presented two annual awards each year known as the John Boutilier Memorial Award and the Alex Strozier Memorial Scholarship Award. The John Boutilier Memorial Award represents a favorite fan that demonstrates enthusiasm and support throughout the entire length of the basketball program. This year, Roderic Lord was the top prospect. The Alex Strozier Memorial Scholarship Award went to Mt. Blue High School senior, Michael Webber.
A couple of improvements the Farmington Parks and Recreation Department made this year to the program was incorporating a mid-week practice before game days as well as ordering personalized jerseys for all 10 teams. Custom logos, numbers, and sleeve emblems were added.
