FARMINGTON – Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale) powered the University of Maine at Farmington women’s basketball team to a 71-58 North Atlantic Conference win over Thomas College Wednesday evening at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Laflin scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Beavers evened their record at 3-3 (1-0 in the NAC) and are scheduled to host the University of New England Saturday. The Terriers dropped to 2-4 (0-1).

Following Laflin, Erin Porter (Bangor) and Jillian Ross (Belfast) scored 15 and 14 points, respectively. Porter grabbed nine boards in the loss, while Amanda Byrne (Winslow) doled out six assists.

Cortney Barrett (Monmouth) led Thomas with 14 points with Mallorie Blakney (Fairfield) adding 13 points and Kristy Clements (Monroe) posting a double-double of 10 points and 15 caroms.

With the game knotted at 12-12, the Beavers used a 13-4 stretch, capped by Alyssa Neptune (Readfield) 3-pointer, to build a 25-16 advantage and take a 33-24 halftime lead.

Farmington expanded on its lead to open the second half with a Porter trey and a pair of Laflin jumpers pushing the lead to 40-24, but the Terriers used an 11-0 run mid-frame to whittle the lead to 44-42 with 12:08 left in the game. From there, the Beavers scored the game’s next nine points in holding on for the win.
