MBHS tennis team wins fourth consecutive team match

Monday at Hippach Field the Mt. Blue High School Men’s Tennis team won its fourth consecutive team match, winning four out of five against a talented Skowhegan team. Highlighting the Monday afternoon event was Mt. Blue’s Matt St. John’s 10-0 win over Skowhegan’s Ivan Ilinsky. St. John’s service and ground strokes were unmatched this season. The most hotly contested match of the day was a grueling dogfight between Alvaro Vian and Alex Downing, with Mt. Blue’s Vian outlasting the talented Skowhegan player,10-8.

Scores were as follows:

Doubles:
Greg Melcer and Jon Iams (Mt. Blue) v. Derek Withee and D.Quirion (Skowhegan) 10-8
Nate Howard and Seth Wegner (Mt. Blue) v. Hank Davis and Rafe Sargent (Skowhegan), 4-10

Singles:
Arvaro Vian (Mt. Blue) v. Alex Downing (Skowhegan), 10-8
Matt St. John (Mt. Blue) v. Ivan Ilinsky (Skowhegan), 10-0
Nick Wilkens (Mt. Blue) v. Jordan Clarke (Skowhegan), 10-7

A doubles exhibition match was also played, with Mt. Blue’s Dylan Toothaker and Sean Paul narrowly losing to Skowhegan’s Artie Perkins and Will Qualey, 6-7.

Mt. Blue’s next contest is Thursday, May 7th, against Brewer High School at Brewer.
