FARMINGTON – James Tollefson (Middletown, RI) scored a goal and assisted on another as the University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer squad notched a 3-1 non-conference victory over the University of Southern Maine today at Prescott Field.

Sean Raph (Waterville, ME) and Michael Camacho (Chelmsford, MA) each added a score as the Beavers improved to 5-6 with a trip to Thomas College for a North Atlantic Conference game scheduled for Saturday. The Huskies dropped to 9-5-1 with a Little East Conference tilt at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday.

Raph headed a pretty cross by Tollefson at 13:28 to stake a 1-0 edge for the Beavers at intermission. Farmington padded its advantage on a play started by a free kick by Andrew Merriken (Salem, NH) in the backfield. Dillon Clark (Old Town, ME) hauled in Merriken’s boot in the corner and crossed it to Tollefson, who lofted a header in for a 2-0 lead at 52:22.

The Huskies’ Greg Cox (Brookline, MA) tightened the lead with a nice individual effort – bullying his way down the side and firing a bullet in – at 65:58.

Camacho sealed the win when he took a pass by Christopher Puffer (Berwick, ME) and fired a shot past the charging defense. The shot clipped the post, but glided over the line for a 3-1 command with 11 minutes left to play.

Matthew Dennett (Augusta, ME) made 10 saves in the victory. The Beavers were outshot 15-12 with the Huskies also holding a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

David Kreps (Agawam, MA) recorded four saves for the Huskies.
