FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team fell to St. Joseph’s College 2-0 in non-conference action today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers dropped to 2-3 and are scheduled to travel to Vermont this weekend to face North Atlantic Conference foes Green Mountain College (Saturday) and Castleton State College (Sunday). The Monks improved to 3-3-2 with a tilt against Suffolk University Saturday.

Greg Cavanaugh (Haverhill, MA) and Paul Robins (Cornwall, England) each scored a goal in the second half for the Monks. Cavanaugh deposited the game-winner at 58:32 when he booted in a Farmington clear attempt just inside the box. Robins tacked on an insurance marker when a corner kick by Andre Cushing (Hampden, ME) was mishandled by the Beavers at 74:23.

Matthew Dennett (Augusta, ME) recorded four saves in goal for the Beavers, who were outshot 12-9. Dennett registered a diving stab on Michael Sanfilippo (Walpole, MA) in the opening minute of the second half to preserve the scoreless deadlock until Cavanaugh’s tally.

St. Joseph’s Will Pike (Gorham, ME) stopped eight shots and made in-traffic snares of both of Farmington’s corner kicks.
