UMF men’s soccer shuts out Unity

FARMINGTON – Andrew Harner (Naperville, IL) recorded a goal and an assist and Sean Raph (Fairfield, ME) and Ethan Jean (Jackson, ME) each collected their first tallies as Beavers as the University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team opened the season with a 3-0 win over Unity College today.

The Beavers (1-0) are scheduled to visit Bowdoin College on Saturday. The start time is slated for 1 p.m. The victory was the first for new men’s soccer coach Christopher Parsons.

The Beavers controlled play throughout the contest and held advantages in shots (30-7) and corner kicks (10-2). Brian Lemont (Brunswick, ME) and Matthew Dennett (Augusta, ME) shared the shutout for Farmington with a combined three saves.

Raph opened the scoring by converting a Harner feed at 8:30 and Harner tacked on another at 18:40 when he deposited a pass up the middle by Dylan Moreau (Phippsburg, ME) for a 2-0 intermission lead. Jean added an insurance score at 60:35 when he got a foot on a throw-in to the box by Ronal Cabe (Strong, ME) for a 3-0 command.
