Women’s volleyball comes up short

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s volleyball rallied from a 2-0 deficit, but came up short as St. Joseph’s College took a 3-2 (28-26, 25-18, 21-25, 18-25, 15-5) win over the Beavers in Dearborn Gymnasium Wednesday night.

The Beavers slipped to 1-6 and are scheduled to travel to Husson University Sunday to face the Eagles and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. St. Joseph’s ran its record to 4-12 and is scheduled to host Maine Maritime Academy and the University of Maine at Fort Kent Saturday.

Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) totaled 12 kills and 13 digs to lead Farmington, while Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) collected 23 digs. Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) and Emily Beebe (Bristol, RI) each added 10 kills with Lindsay Hansen (Gorham, ME) pacing the Beavers with 22 assists.

Katie Boccanelli (Harpswell, ME) notched 13 kills to lead the Monks with Jordan Pelczar (Meredith, NH) recording 15 digs and Sam Varrell (Portsmouth, NH) dishing out 29 assists.
