Women’s volleyball picks up a pair of NAC wins

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s volleyball team defeated Castleton State College 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 29-27) and Green Mountain College 3-0 25-20, 25-23, 25-15) in North Atlantic Conference competition today at Dearborn Gymnasium.

In other action at Farmington, Thomas (2-12, 1-3) fell to Green Mountain 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-14) and Castleton 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19).

The Beavers ran their record to 5-7 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Farmington is scheduled to host the UMF Invitational next Friday and Saturday.

Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) paced the Beavers with eight kills and 15 digs against Castleton (3-9, 1-4) and eight kills and 11 digs versus Green Mountain (11-4, 2-1).

Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) chipped in with seven kills in the win over Castleton. Jamie Lemieux (Argyle, NY) led the Spartans in kills, while Jenny Hill (Winterport, ME) shined in digs and Gina Nassivera (Argyle, NY) was handling assists.

Mitchell added eight kills for the Beavers against GMC with Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) chipping in 11 digs. Ify Umeugo (New Haven, CT) made 14 kills with 3.5 blocks for the Eagles.

Umeugo notched 13 kills and Emma Buckley (Lakeville, CT) added 11 kills and 10 assists for the Eagles in their win over Thomas. Sarah Marckoon (Lamoine, ME) had four kills for the Terriers.

Lemieux and Laura Thomas (Pittstown, NY) led Castleton in the victory over Thomas. Marckoon recorded eight kills in the loss with Jen Nantel (Sanford, ME) chipping in seven kills.
