Letter to the Editor: Collins’ cowardice

1 min read

There was a time when Senator Susan Collins was known for having the courage of her convictions, but that quality is now sorely lacking. Her most recent attempt to have it all ways without risking anything was in her weak response to President Trump’s racist comments regarding Representatives Omar, Ocasio-Cortes, Presley, and Tlaib. “Go back where you came from” has been a racist taunt from the beginning of the Republic, thrown over the years at Jews, Italians, the Irish, Eastern Europeans, Asians, and now people of color. There is nothing accidental or unintended about this slogan. It certainly means nothing to our President that his targets happen to be American citizens who have chosen the high calling of public service.

Instead of reacting to this with the sharp condemnation called for, Collins repeats the lies that these people are socialists and anti-Semites, as though political differences might justify the racist catcalls our President encourages. Senator Collins then weakly asks that the president “take his comments down.”

When the very fabric of our society and the integrity of our Republic are challenged by those who do their best to divide, Senator Collins should rise to the occasion rather than stoop.

  1. I don’t like Trumps demeanor and I did not vote for him.
But I’m less impressed with the lies of SOME of his enemies.
    2 WRONGS DON’T MAKE A RIGHT.

How anyone can defend these racist, sexist women is beyond me. They are hateful to anyone who disagrees with them. The one from Detroit has stated Trump should be deported… But that’s not reported much…lol

What he said was for them to “Go figure out the problems in those countries and COME BACK and for us how it’s done.
Remember the “then come back” part ????
Dumb thing to say, I agree but let’s be real here.

They have all said worse things about him and a lot of others,,, WHERE’S THE OUTAGE ABOUT “THEIR” BEHAVIOR?

    Hate Trumps behavior (understandable)..
    But CMON BE FAIR ,
OR YOU ARE JUST PART OF THE HATE MONGERING.

These women of color (as they say) are showing a lot of hate towards a lot of people.
Now we’re seeing a big pushback again their hate from other women of color. (Hardly makes the news SURPRISE).

THE PUSHBACK IS GETTING WIDER STILL..
    THANKFULLY.

  2. I have never heard Trump address them by race, I have heard him make comments based on AOC’s abundantly clear lack of knowledge about things that according to her diplomas(Economics and International Relations) she should know about. Tlaib said right in front of her 4 year old son “We’re going to impeach the mothef*****!”, that is not the mark of a stable personality. Omar about 9/11, “Some people did some things” Neither one of them would condemn the firebombing of a Tacoma, Washington ICE detention center as an act of terrorism committed by ANTIFA. And his remark “Go back to where you came from.” means nothing, AOC(her claim as being “Puerto Rican” are not true), Tlaib, and Pressley are natural born Americans, Omar came as a child and was naturalized. And thus far neither one of them has proven they are worthy or know what the hell they are doing enough to be in congress. AOC wants to send us $40 trillion deeper into debt, WHILE complaining that the $21 trillion in debt we already have is too high, she should go back to where she came from, a small apartment in the Bronx, tending bar or whatever. The “Squad” are a group of four useless representatives too hell bent on their own halfbaked ideas to be an asset to America as lawmakers, they should go back to where they came from, New York, Minnesota, Massachusetts and Michigan.

  3. maybe a little too hard for you.

    cite your sources.

here is the exact quote from the president’s tweet:

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly……

it’s indefensible without deliberately distorting the content and the context of what was said, which is exactly what your ranting comment attempts. it’s hard to say whether the president’s words are better explained by malice or ignorance. but yours, i’m more certain about.

    no, he didn’t.

WHERE’S THE OUTAGE ABOUT “THEIR” BEHAVIOR?

    be specific.

These women of color (as they say) are showing a lot of hate towards a lot of people.
Now we’re seeing a big pushback again their hate from other women of color. (Hardly makes the news SURPRISE).

    CITE YOUR SOURCES.

  4. The “women of color” in the “Squad” are totally despicable … IF they truly love this country then they should
be doing something for the people of their districts! How they can say they are not racists is beyond me when they us the language they do … and make the statements and claims they do is unbelievable! AND they are definitely anti-Israel … and it’s obvious they and many Americans do not understand that Israel is
God’s chosen country and will be protected until HE returns. Read your Bibles.

They were elected to represent the people who elected them and they are not doing anything other than trying to gain publicity for themselves. Why aren’t they in their offices working on “meaningful” things and not tweeting and standing in front of the liberal/leftist TV cameras everyday. I can’t wait for them to all be voted out of office in the near future.

  5. I’m voting for Collins for not following the hysterical hateful anti Trump crowd.
Trump deserves a lot of criticism for many things but somehow I don’t think it’s possible to be Too Hard on this “Squad”. They are crazy and hateful.
So,,, give it tight back to them.
If Collins wants to condemn the Squads Hate Speech,
    I’m ok with that.

  6. Apparently Myopic doesn’t watch the news. Trump was calling Omar on her rhetoric which she has been spouting for the past few months, and she is anti-semitic with her support of BDS(Boycott, Divest, Sanction) movement against Israel, She has been telling anybody who hands her a microphone that they have a constitutional duty to support her boycott. That in and of itself is anti-American as we have free will and the freedom to do as we please and in no way do we have to support her nonsense, even other house dems and members of the “squad” voted against her on a house resolution NOT to support her BDS movement. Then he challenged her, saying to go back to home country if America and its leaders are so bad. If you can’t understand what Trump means by what he is saying, it’s because you’re not really listening.

  7. if you can’t (or refuse to) distinguish between a mistake and a lie, it truly boggles the mind how you can continue to blindly defend donald trump.

  8. @selective thinking could you elaborate on what your talking about in regards to this article. President Trump never said anything about making a mistake or lying about AOC +3 in anyway. He has simply pointed out there hateful rhetoric towards our country and Israel now all of a sudden it’s racist to do so.

  9. President Trump is delivering on his promises. I’m liking the low unemployment and the markets. The likes of our own Ms pingre, old wind king and golden boy are doing nothing to address illegals breaking our laws, entering our country and costing our taxpayers millions in welfare support. Enter the 4 socialists that comprise the foul mouthed squad and again President Trump tells it like it is. They are clearly anti American and anti Israel. Not exactly what you want in a US rep. I feel sorry for the fools that voted for these clowns.

  10. Ah, being a firebrand is a very hard life, is it not?

The Squad, when not creating a divide in their party during a time when they need to be united and spouting nonsensical Socialist ideas that only work when they’re not applied to real life (Green New Deal, anyone?), has been poking the cantankerous bear since they came into office and now the bear is snapping back with the irritable ire they should have expected. They’re acting like a victim in all of this while they’re the instigators of their own misery.

Allow me to play the saddest song in the world on the 10 stringed harp; it’s called the Career of the Squad that Was. It’s like a comedy of old where the protagonist starts off on the bottom and gradually moves their way up to the glorious top, only in reverse.

    Cheers,
    Shamus

  11. I appreciate the fact that Sen Collins is pushing a bill to lower the price of insulin. Our family would be greatly benefit by losing the high price of this viral drug.
I would think ANY doctor would recognize the important work she does for real everyday people.
Apparently some docs are caught up in the Liberal BS that’s rampant today.
    Grow up.
