FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington Ministry of Experimental Arts will host its first annual “Snowbound Hoedown” snow sculpture competition on Friday, Feb. 27, on the UMF Mantor Library Green. Individuals and teams from UMF and the local community are welcome to participate; the contest is free and open to public.
The building of sculptures may begin anytime after sunrise on Feb. 27, and must be completed by 5 p.m. that day. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges, including UMF students, faculty and staff. The contest will be followed by a reception to announce the winners and award prizes from 5–6:30 p.m., in the UMF Art Gallery.
The Ministry of Experimental Arts is an organization of UMF students, faculty and staff whose mission is to promote the arts at UMF and provide arts and cultural opportunities for the campus and local communities. Founded in 2007, this innovative arts organization has presented many successful cultural events in collaboration with the UMF Department of Visual and Performing Arts, including, 2007 Arts Night and 2008 Arts Week, both developed as preludes to the Michael D. Wilson Symposium celebration of undergraduate research; and 2009 Winter Arts Week, which presented a host of original musical, video, theatrical and art exhibits.
