Strong man heads to prison for two dozen burglaries and thefts

FARMINGTON – A 22-year-old Strong man who pleaded guilty to 25 burglary and theft charges occurring in several Franklin County towns has been sentenced to serve 9 months and one day in prison.

Andrew D.Burton pleaded guilty in Franklin County Superior Court today to 13 felony burglary charges and 12 related misdemeanor theft charges in a series of break-ins at homes in Jay, Farmington, Strong, New Sharon and Chesterville, beginning late in 2006 and continuing through last summer.

Burton broke into several homes taking cash, a wedding band, checks, a flat screen TV, camping items such as a screen room tent, fishing poles, tackle, a grill set; other items included a tool box filled with tools, a chain saw and returnable bottles. At another residence in Jay he stole dinner plates and glasses.

Twice Burton broke into the same house. In April 2007 in broke into a Farmington home and then came back to break in a second time more than a year later in July of 2008. At another home in New Sharon, he broke in June of 2008 and then returned 10 days later, breaking in again.

His last burglary and theft he pleaded guilty to occurred in Strong in July 2008 when he took a firearm.

Burton also pleaded guilty to burglaries in Somerset County and will serve the nine months and one day of a 5-year prison sentence concurrently with the Franklin County sentence. He was also ordered to pay a portion of the $5,717 in restitution with two other co-defendants.
