CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts in partnership with The Franco American Heritage Center will present Ireland’s Premier traditional band “The Boys of the Lough” (pronounced Lock) at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in South Carthage on Sunday March 14th, at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity on Monday March 15th, and at The Franco American Heritage Center in Lewiston on Tuesday March 16th. Curtain is at 7:00 pm and there will be a pre-show jam session at 6:15 p.m. at all three venues.
Audience members are encouraged to bring their instruments and jam for a few minutes.
The Boys of the Lough were the first full-time professional Celtic band to arise on the international scene. Their warm and upbeat performances have brought Dave Richardson, Kevin Henderson, Cathal McConnell, Brendan Begley and Malcolm Stitt friends from the village halls of their homelands to international concert and festival stages. The Grammy-nominated group has released 20 albums and has been entertaining audiences for more than 30 years. This show is a must-see for all Celtic fans!
The Boys of the Lough now occupy a unique position of respect in the world of traditional music. They have completed over 70 tours of the USA and their performances and recordings are spread over five decades.
Since the first tour in 1967 the Boys have traveled extensively in their mission to gain traditional a wider audience and respect establishing a precedent that many others have followed. True originals, direct from the tradition, the Boys have earned admiration on both sides of the Atlantic and continue to act as role models to countless younger musicians. Their concerts, recordings, and compositions were crucial in bringing about the current explosion of interest in all facets of Celtic music.
