WILTON – The circus has come to town for two shows tonight, but had to change locations because its trucks couldn’t fit through Kineowatha Park’s gates.

The Walker International Events, Inc. circus shows will take place at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., tonight, July 16, in the parking lot next to the town office at 128 Weld Road (at the west side of the Western Maine Development complex). Signs for the circus point to the entrance off Weld Road.

Frank Donald, Wilton’s Park and Recreation director, said after trying for two hours, the circus’ tractor trailer just couldn’t squeeze through the park’s gates where the two shows were set to take place.

The show will go on, however, after some quick thinking came up with the idea of the large parking lot next to the town office. Each 90-minute show, sponsored by the Rec Department, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit the department’s programs, features acrobats, aerialists, animals and plenty of comedy.

Adult tickets can be purchased for $15 at the gate today, beginning at 4 p.m. Two children, ages 14 and younger, will be admitted free of charge with a paying adult. Additional children’s tickets are $5 apiece.

  1. The circus went great last night even with a little rain during the second show. I want to send out a BIG thank you to Greg Toothaker who is manager of the site where the circus took place and to Gil Reed the owner of the site. They were both very helpful and easy to work with and they really bailed us out of a tough situation at the last minute and lots of people had a good time as a result, so if you enjoyed the show and you see either of these gentleman feel free to give them your thanks as well.
