Mobile home destroyed in fire

1 min read

NEW VINEYARD – A man returned home to find his mobile home in flames Saturday evening. Despite a quick response and call for mutual aid, the building was destroyed.

Firefighters say that the building was completely involved by the fire moments after they arrived at 60 Church Street. The owner of the mobile home, Tim Wilbur, said that he returned from a trip to Farmington and saw smoke.

“I opened the back door,” Wilbur said, “and the flames shot up real quick.”

Wilbur said he was uncertain as to the origin of the fire.

Crews first arrived on scene at roughly 6:30 p.m. Within an hour the mobile home was a smoking shell as firefighters worked to put out a few scattered hot spots and further tear down walls to ventilate the area.

Personnel on scene said that Red Cross was being consulted to find temporary living arrangements for Wilbur.

Fire crews from New Vineyard and other surrounding communities watch the mobile home at 60 Church Street continue to smolder Saturday evening. The owner, Tim Wilbur, is on the left.
