Author to read Thursday at UMF

FARMINGTON – Award-winning author Rosemary Mahoney will read from her work at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 14 in The Landing in the University of Maine at Farmington’s Olsen Student Center. This event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a signing by the author.

Mahoney is the author of The Early Arrival of Dreams; A Year in China,  a New York Times Notable Book; Whoredom in Kimmage, The World of Irish Women,  a New York Times Notable Book and National Book Critics Circle Award finalist;  A Likely Story: One Summer with Lillian Hellman, The Singular Pilgrim; Travels on Sacred Ground, and Down the Nile; Alone in a Fisherman’s Skiff, was chosen as a best book of the year by both Publisher’s Weekly and The Christian Science Monitor.

As an undergraduate at Harvard, Mahoney was awarded the Charles E. Horman Prize for Fiction Writing and is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant and a Whiting Writer’s Award. Mahoney’s work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post Book World, The New York Times Book Review, Elle, National Geographic Traveler, O Magazine, and the New York Times Magazine.

She currently lives in Providence, R.I., as well as Sifnos, Greece.
