Kingfield gallery presenting oil painting exhibit through January

KINGFIELD – The Schoolhouse Gallery is please to present an exhibit of oil paintings by plein-air artist Matthew Russ. Opening on January 6, 2012, during the Kingfield First Friday Artwalk, the work will be on display through February 2, 2012.

Russ, a Portland native and 1996 graduate of Colby College, is known for his tranquil work depicting remote landscapes of Maine. Accessing these locations by foot, snowshoe and boat, he always paints from life, working outdoors in all seasons. These paintings give us all a chance to experience the emotion and sacredness of these special places Matthew has discovered in the Western Mountains of Maine.

The work of paper artists Kate Cheney Chappell and Dona Seegers will be on exhibit during the month of February and Margaurite Robichaux and Elizabeth Peavy will be on hand during the March Artwalk to celebrate the completion of their new book “Glorious Slow Going, Maine Stories of Art, Adventure and Friendship”. There will be a reading from the book, book signings and original artwork by Margaurite will be on display throughout the month of March.
