Mid Maine Youth Orchestra performs March 4 & 6

Mid Maine Youth Orchestra concerts will be presented on March 4th and 6th.

FARMINGTON – Mid Maine Youth Orchestra will present two performances of their 2010 – 2011 program, at the Messalonskee High School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 4 (snow date: March 5) and in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 (snow date: March 13). The program will feature works by Brahms, Bruckner, Holst, Prokofiev, Zimmer and Kirt Mosier and both concerts are free and open to public.

Founded in 1984, the Mid Maine Youth Orchestra is an auditioned full symphony that brings together selected 7th through 12th grade music students from Western and Central Maine for the purpose of advancing their musical skills and performing major orchestral works. The orchestra rehearses weekly from November through the beginning of March to prepare the program of large-scale works under the direction of conductors, Andrew Forster and Daniel Keller.

Andrew J. Forster has been an instrumental music teacher in the Messalonskee School District for 21 years. In 2006, he was named a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars. Associate conductor Daniel Keller is the string specialist for the Waterville Public Schools where he also serves as the Department Chair for the Visual and Performing Arts and Curriculum Coordinator for Music.
