FARMINGTON – Next month for the sixth time over the past dozen years, The Mt. Blue Voices a cappella vocal ensemble from Mt. Blue High School will be representing their community and state during Walt Disney World’s Magic Music Days Celebration.
The 16-member group will be traveling to Florida from April 15th to the 20th. During their time at one of the most important entertainment destinations in the world, The Voices will be performing a number of concerts and taking part in two lengthy workshops.
The Voices will be presenting a special pre-Disney Trip concert on Sunday evening, March 28, at 7:00 p.m. in Nordica Auditorium, which is located in Merrill Hall on The University of Maine at Farmington campus. This will be a wonderful opportunity for local concertgoers to hear these outstanding singers at their best as they peak for their Disney experience.
This year, as usual, The Voices, under the direction of Dennis Hayes, have put together a varied repertoire of popular songs representing each of the decades from the 1950s to the present. According to Hayes, because of the Disney trip “we have really expanded into styles that we have not tried before. We are confident that The Voices have something for everyone. Along with songs that have topped the pop charts we have this year included a country hit by Shania Twain, some hip hop dance music by Beyonce, and of course a couple of Disney classics.”
“Disney promotes their Magic Music Days program as a way for student musicians to perform for an international audience. This is very true. People from all over the world are going to have the opportunity to enjoy the music sung by The Mt. Blue Voices,” Hayes added.
In 2010 Disney Youth Group Programs is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Magic Music Days. Over this quarter of a century well over 1 million students have performed as part of the program. Some of the perks enjoyed by this year’s participants, such as The Voices, are greatly reduced theme park ticket prices and resort rooms.
During the March 28 concert The Voices will be have their CD “Can You Hear The Voices?” on sale. Donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go directly to funding the group’s Disney trip.
