FARMINGTON – The Mt. Blue Voices a cappella vocal ensemble from Mt. Blue High School are planning on celebrating the beginning of the spring season on Sunday afternoon, April 3, with a three o’clock concert in Nordica Auditorium on the campus of The University of Maine at Farmington.

The sixteen student vocalists that make up this outstanding high school group have prepared a program of classic popular songs all sung in The Voices’ unique and highly entertaining style. There is a theme running through the titles of these songs. Most have been made famous or originally recorded by noted singer-song writers. Singing without any instrumental accompaniment The Mt. Blue Voices will be performing songs by Alicia Keys, Brian Wilson, Lennon and McCartney, John Mayer, Pete Townshend, Marc Anthony, Daniel Powter, Jason Mraz and others.

Dennis Hayes, the ensemble’s director and founder, said: “This school year we, the members of The Voices and I, have been concentrating on studying the music of some very important entertainers who have greatly influenced our musical culture over the past forty to fifty years. There is a great deal for the students to learn from singing the wonderful music of these artists. Great music is valuable no mater what genre is represents.”

The concert will be free and will last approximately one hour. Hayes says, “We hope that an afternoon concert like this will be convenient for families with younger children and others who sometimes find nighttime events impossible to attend.

The Mt. Blue Voices are currently booking engagement for the final quarter of the school year. Interested individuals and groups may contact Mt. Blue High School.
