Poet’s Corner: Spellbound

1 min read

What if you woke
to a world of glass trees . . .

What if you lingered to look
at the landscape of sun-fractured light
blistering the treetops . . .

What if silver arrows dropped from above . . .

What if you noticed—for the first
time—a bird nest high in the Virginia Creeper vines
next to the barn-door frame . . .

What if you watched
water drip from an ice-covered spur and
counted the intervals between drops:
eight, then twelve, nineteen—
suddenly—a rush
drop,drop,drop,drop,drop
streaming under the ice cover of the branch
to the test tube-shaped icicle
drip,drip,drip,drip,drip . . .

What if it made you cry . . .
