FARMINGTON – April showers bring two nights of panic-stricken comedy as western Maine improv troupe, Teachers Lounge Mafia perform their new show, Mayday! Mayday! on Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. in Lincoln Auditorium of Roberts Learning Center on the University of Maine at Farmington campus.

Despite their harsh exterior, Teachers Lounge Mafia really are all about the laughs when they perform at UMF’s Lincoln Auditorium on May 1st and 2nd at 7:30 p.m. (l. to r. Kyla Wheeler, Emily Pottle, Dan Ryder, Natalie Bean, Jeff Bailey, Gavin Pickering)

The Teachers Lounge Mafia’s new show, Mayday! Mayday! features a collection of all-original improv and sketch comedy designed to help audiences escape the last trappings of mud season and make a soft landing into spring. Leaving the manure spreaders at home, audiences can plan to be treated by classic crowd participation games and some standards of the Teachers Lounge repertoire. The show also includes a couple of new comic experiences incorporating that magical realm, the Internet. The humor will be plentiful but audiences should be aware that it is not for all-ages. Audience discretion is advised.

Teachers Lounge Mafia were last seen delivering early morning comedy to the participants in UMF’s Relay for Life at the Health & Recreation Center. Just prior to that, they shared the stage with UMF’s premier improv comics, Lawn Chair Pirates, to benefit the relay and cancer research. Mayday! Mayday! continues the Teachers Lounge efforts to help those in need as audiences are encouraged to bring non-perishables to support a local food bank.

Teachers Lounge Mafia consists of area comic actors, Emily Pottle, Gavin Pickering, Jeff Bailey, Kyla Wheeler, Natalie Bean, and Dan Ryder. Several are former members of other improv groups including The Curtain Raisers and Lawn Chair Pirates, while the rest aren’t. Taking inspiration from the early years of Saturday Night Live, Upright Citizens Brigade, Kids in the Hall, The State, the writings of Judy Blume and Pablo Naruto, as well as their own twisted comic stylings, the Teachers Lounge Mafia hope to bring something different to the foothills – and still be allowed to live here.

Mayday! Mayday! runs for two nights only, Friday and Saturday, May 1st and 2nd, at 7:30 p.m. in Lincoln Auditorium on the UMF campus. The show contains mature content; audience discretion is advised. Admission is free with non-perishables being collected to support a local food bank.
