KINGFIELD – Rolling Fatties “Word Buzz” series continues Thursday, March 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. with Liz Peavey, Maine performer, writer, speech coach, and humorist. Word Buzz is an informal, once monthly chat with people in the word biz and 10 percent of sales during the event are donated to Webster Library in Kingfield.
Liz has had a long career of writing about and drinking around Maine. She bursts with energy and is quick to love. After coming to Rolling Fatties a few times, she deemed it her “favorite bar in Maine” only to admit a couple weeks later that The Garage, a short lived rogue bar in Kingfield, was her new favorite. “The Garage is my favorite! It has implements of death hanging on the walls!”
Seriously though, she’s a professional. Her accomplishments include serving as lecturer of public speaking at the University of Southern Maine for over 20 years and teaching creative non-fiction at the University of Maine at Farmington. Her one-woman show, My Mother’s Clothes Are Not My Mother, has played to sold-out houses – including at The Rack – since 2011 and received the Maine Literary Award for Best Drama. She is the author of three books, including Glorious Slow Going, a collaboration with renowned local landscape painter, Marguerite Robichaux, and she has been Down East contributor since 1993.
Revered by her peers, fellow writer Al Diamon says, “Elizabeth Peavey is the most exasperating, stubborn, bull-headed and talented writer I know. If there were more people like her, civilization would collapse. Not that that would be a bad thing.” Her greatest accomplishment, so she says, is making it to almost retirement age without ever holding down a real job. We are hoping she can give us some pointers.
Rolling Fatties sparked as a food truck delivering burritos from the windows of a ’74 Airstream. Inspired by the fresh and local tenets of Mexican cooking, Rolling Fatties now offers Fatties, bowls, wings, falafel and more deliciousness in a renovated farmhouse in the sweet little village of Kingfield, Maine. Fatties is a joint effort of husband and wife owners Rob and Polly MacMichael, who share a passion for spreading health and happiness, and pouring crafty Maine beers to friends new and old. The restaurant and bar at 268 Main Street in Kingfield is open Wednesday and Thursday 3-8, Friday and Saturday 12-8, and Sunday 12-6. The next Word Buzz event is April 11 from 6-8 and we’ll be celebrating poetry month.
