FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington President Theodora J. Kalikow is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Jamie E. Marcus as the University’s new director of admission. Marcus comes to UMF with more than 15 years of experience in higher education, serving for the last 10 years in admission at colleges with high-quality, student-centered public liberal arts missions similar to UMF.

“We are excited to start the New Year by welcoming Jamie to the UMF community,” said Kalikow. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in higher education recruitment and enrollment strategies that will help lead UMF into the future. We’re thrilled he’s joining us.”

In his new role as a senior member of the UMF Division of Enrollment Management and Marketing, Marcus oversees the UMF admission operation, including all undergraduate recruitment and admission efforts. This key leadership position is responsible for developing communications and marketing plans to cultivate positive relationships with prospective students and their families, improving services to students and working collaboratively with staff and faculty to advance the University’s admission efforts.

“UMF is a warm and welcoming place and I’m looking forward to being a part of the team that helps make the UMF experience available to prospective students eager to take the next important step in their lives,” said Marcus. “UMF offers the kind of education that not only teaches you the skills you need today but also how to think critically and be creative for the jobs of tomorrow. I’m excited to be a part of that.”

Marcus most recently served as the director of enrollment at New College of Florida, in Sarasota, where he supervised their enrollment team, created an applicant to enrollee communication plan and represented the college with the Florida state university system. In addition, he served as a regional marketing manager and helped evaluate and select candidates for admission to the college.

As the assistant director of admission at University of North Carolina, Ashville, Marcus recruited prospective first year and transfer students and successfully coordinated and implemented all aspects of UNC Ashville’s admission open house programs. At University of Virginia’s College at Wise, he managed student recruitment as an admission counselor and also served as their multicultural and international coordinator.

Prior to his work in college admission, Marcus served with student residential life at Maine Maritime Academy and Virginia Intermont College where he worked closely with all aspects of first-year student residential needs.

Marcus enjoys many fitness activities, having run several half marathons, and is looking forward to many of Maine’s four-season recreational opportunities. He holds a B.A. in English, Cum Laude; and an M.A. in Higher Education/College Student Personnel from University of Connecticut.
