Confiscated by Jay Police were marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia.

JAY – Two people were arrested in connection with a vehicle stop and marijuana possession, police said.

Emily C, Eaton, 26, of 77 Forest Ave, Portland, was arrested on Oct. 8 at 12:20 a.m. and charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (marijuana), a Class E crime. While working patrol, Officer Nicholas Gulliver and Sgt. Troy Young of the Jay Police Department, stopped a 2001 Hyundai sedan on Main Street due to a defect on the vehicle, said Police Chief Larry White, Sr.

After making contact with the operator of the vehicle, John Poole, 30, of East Corinth, the officers arrested him for operating a motor vehicle while his right to do so was suspended. Gulliver spoke with Eaton, the passenger in the vehicle, and said he could smell a very strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle.

Officers then advised Eaton of the strong odor and, police said, after a brief discussion, admitted to having marijuana in the vehicle. Eaton reportedly showed the officer where the marijuana was in the vehicle where 5.3 ounces of marijuana and $590 in cash was found. The cash was found in a baggie with some of the marijuana, White said. The cash was also confiscated. Eaton was arrested. The vehicle belonged to a family member of Eaton’s who was not with them at the time of the stop.

She was also arrested for permitting illegal operation of a motor vehicle due to Poole operating the vehicle while his right to do so was under suspension. She was also issued a civil summons for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both Eaton and Poole were transported to the Franklin County Jail. The district attorney’s office will be reviewing the case for any other possible charges.
