Chesterville’s History on Exhibit at the Fair

FARMINGTON – This year it’s Chesterville’s turn to display its former glory at the Farmington Fair, according to Chesterville Heritage Society member Cindy Whittier.

“We were thrilled to be invited last spring to place an exhibit in the museum annex to the Exhibition Hall at the 2009 Fair,” Cindy said.  “We knew it would be a wonderful chance to share Chesterville’s past, which included a lively economy and some interesting characters. We also like to provide the opportunity to relive some memories for our older Chesterville residents.”

The society will also use the opportunity for some fund raising toward the establishment of a museum to house historical artifacts and documents.  Along with mugs and hunting caps bearing Chesterville insignia, a woven throw blanket picturing historic Chesterville landmarks will be on sale for $50.

Also for sale will be the popular bicentennial scrapbook-format volume, Chesterville Memories, for $12.

“We hope people will stop by and check us out,” Cindy said. “We are not in the large Fair Museum (the permanent collection of the Franklin County Fair) – we are right next to the Exhibition Hall, the big yellow building.  Stop in and see us, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout Farmington Fair week, which is Sept. 20 through Sept. 26.”
