Farmers’ meetings continue to focus on reviving agriculture in Franklin County

1 min read

Richard Marble of the Marble Family Farms is shown here at a recent Farmers’ Meeting sharing a reprint from the 1938 USDA Yearbook of Agriculture “Soils and Men.”

The goals of the meetings which are sponsored by the West Farmington Grange are to help area farmers, to get more Franklin County farmland back into production and help people get into farming. The talk this week was about growing wheat for local bakers, pressing oil from sunflower seeds, farm apprentices, what the latest census had to say about the state of farming in Maine and Maine Farmland Trusts efforts in Franklin County to permanently protect farmland.

Also pictured is Linda Smithers of Medicine Hill Farm in Starks and John Davis of Philips. The meetings which have been held at the Marble Farm all winter will be moving next month to the West Farmington Grange. For further information contact Marble at 491-6166.
