Farmington’s Strawberry Festival July 24 & 25

FARMINGTON – The annual Strawberry Festival will feature strawberries, of course, and so much more. Included in the events are Art in the Park, artisans displaying and demonstrating their crafts on Broadway (pictured above at last year’s festival), entertainment, food and fireworks in Industry will top it all off after dusk.

On Friday, July 24th: Art in the Park 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in Meetinghouse Park, Lobster Roll Bag Lunch 11-1 p.m. at the gazebo, the fire fighters’ famous chicken BBQ 4 p.m. at the Courthouse parking lot, 5K Road Race Registration 4:30 p.m. in front of City Lights on Broadway.

On Saturday July 25: 10-5 p.m. Strawberry Festival; Pony rides, crafters, wagon rides, kettle corn, Rotary Club Car Show, wood turning, strawberry shortcake, strolling magician, lobster rolls, Italian ice, hot dogs, and much more! Dunk Tank…take your best shot at: Police Chief Richard Caton, III (10am), Ski Museum curator Megan Roberts (11am), Town Manager Dick Davis (12pm), Town Assessor Mark Caldwell (1pm); attorney, historian & town moderator Paul Mills (2pm); landlord extraordinaire Bill Marceau (3pm). Only $2 for 3 throws!

A book signing: Witches, pirates, ghosts and magical creatures to be introduced at Farmington Strawberry Festival 2 p.m. on Saturday July 25, at Devaney, Doak & Garrett Booksellers on Broadway. Both the chronicler of their adventures, and the illustrator who has captured their stories on canvas.

Author, J Bean Palmer, a former Farmington resident, and UMF alumni, with juried fine artist and illustrator, Melanie Therrien will be on hand to sign copies and talk with readers during the festivities. They will be presenting The Cape Cod Witch and the Legend of the Pirate, their latest book in the Cape Cod Witch Series. During the festival the artist will also perform a demonstration of the book illustration process, creating an original a piece of artwork for the upcoming Cape Cod Witch Cook Book, the Secret Recipes of Hannah Goodspell. All are invited to this free event.

Raffle Tickets will be sold at Trask Jeweler’s, Mickey’s Hallmark, Mainestone Jewelry, and Calico Patch. $2 each to win one of 3 baskets. Items displayed in Mainestone Jewelry window.

FIREWORKS!!! After the festival the show in the sky starts at dark in Industry at the Wing Farm field on Route 148. This is the famous fireworks display sponsored by the Industry Fire and Rescue Department normally held on the Fourth of July was postponed this year due to too much wet weather.
