Fire destroys the home of Bruce Moulton, 68 of Industry. Fire fighters from four area departments are currently battling the blaze at 517 Federal Row. Moulton said he came home with a load of groceries and saw black smoke coming from his home. He called for help at 3:28 p.m. today.

INDUSTRY – Bruce Moulton arrived from the store at about 3:25 this afternoon with a load of groceries and found black smoke seeping from inside his home.

He called fire fighters, who responded within a few minutes to his home at 517 Federal Row, but there was little that could be done to save it. Flames poured from every window and door and ripped through the roof. Two tanks of propane on the left side of the home erupted into fierce white flames sending fire fighters back momentarily.

“It’s gone,” Moulton, 68, said with tears in his eyes. He had built his home himself, up from a simple cabin, and lived here alone for the last eight years.

Fire departments from Industry, Farmington, New Sharon, all pitched in to rig the lines and get water onto the fire. Moulton’s steep dirt driveway was narrow off Federal Row and quickly turned to mud in the hard rain and extinguishing work of the fire hoses.

Moulton said he had some insurance on the house but didn’t think it would cover the cost of replacing this home.

“It’s just a good thing you weren’t in there,” a neighbor said to him.

As is routine, an investigator with the state’s Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to try and determine the cause of the blaze.

Temple’s fire department was called to cover the Farmington station in the event of more calls, which did come. A little after 4 p.m., a vehicle on Industry Road in Industry, was reported as “a roll over” and a few minutes after that, several vehicles were reported involved in a chain-reaction accident on the New Vineyard Road in Farmington. Wilton and Strong fire departments were called into help with the wrecks, as were law enforcement officers. No injuries were reported in either of the accidents at this time.
