Fourth of July Celebrations: Industry postpones fireworks to July 25

INDUSTRY – This town’s famous fireworks show on the Fourth of July has been postponed to Saturday, July 25, according to Fire Chief Joe Paradis this morning.

The fireworks show that draws thousands to the Wing Farm’s fields on Route 148 in Industry has been moved to July 25 to correspond with the Farmington Strawberry Festival. The fields, saturated with several inches of rain and predicted wet weather on the Fourth, prompted the Industry Fire and Rescue Department, which sponsors the event, to move it to hopefully drier days.

Several Franklin County towns will be pulling out the red, white and blue on Friday and Saturday to celebrate independence day with a variety of activities.

RANGELEY – The Town of Rangeley’s Independence Day Celebration begins on Friday, July 3 with a Children’s Day Parade at 10 a.m., cook-outs, silent auction, entertainment at Lakeside Park, chicken barbeque, Church of the Good Shepherd, 5-7 p.m., all topped off with fireworks at dusk.

On Saturday, July 4, at 10 a.m., the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum will hold its annual fundraising auction at the Museum Building on Route 16, one mile east of Rangeley.

JAY – Jay/Livermore Falls Independence Day parade is Friday, July 3. Line-up at 4 p.m. in Jay at the Memco parking lot on Main Street for a 5 p.m. start down Main Street in Jay and through Livermore Falls to Depot Street. Organizers invite everyone to join in the parade with a float, antique vehicle, band, walking for an organization, etc. The VFW on Jewell Street in Jay has a chicken BBQ right after the parade. Music in the gazebo in Livermore Falls.

CARABASSETT VALLEY – The Town of Carrabassett Valley will be holding its annual July 4th Celebration on Saturday at the Town Park, beginning at noon. A children’s parade at 12:30 p.m. Turfulios; magic show at 1:30 p.m. ; Music by Kathy’s Karaoke 1-5 p.m.; Children’s arts and crafts 2-3 p.m.; sawdust pile surprise at 2:30 p.m.; fire truck ride with the chief 3-5 p.m.; music by the Band Roundhouse Rock & Roll 5:30-9 p.m. and fireworks at 9:15 p.m.

FARMINGTON – The First Annual Fishing Derby for adults with developmental disabilities will be held on Friday, July 3 at Rollo Pond in Abbott Park from 11 a.m. to noon. The event is sponsored by the Farmington Recreation Department. Participants should be accompanied by either a family member or an agency supervisor.  Anyone wishing to enter the derby must contact the Rec Dept. by calling 778-3464.

The Flagg Family Fourth of July Fishing Derby at Rollo Pond in Farmington, for children aged 3-10, gets started on Saturday, July 4 at 8 a.m. sharp. Trophies awarded for first catch, biggest fish and more.

Farmington’s annual parade, sponsored by the Rotary Club, starts at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4. Line-up and registration is at 8:15 a.m. at Mallett School Parking lot on Middle Street. Judging begins at 9:15 a.m. This year’s fun theme is “Summer in Maine.” There will be eight categories this year and ribbons for the top three winners in each class that will be judged on theme, originality and effort. They are military; agriculture; individual; Family; Business; Antique car or truck; antique tractor; and group. Participants are asked to register before parking so they can be placed in the right location for judging.
