From left to right: Cory Chute, Tin Man, Josh Pitcher and Cherie Sadler at Pitcher Perfect Tire are organizing a benefit auction, supper and raffle for Ron Sawyer. On Saturday the auction starts at 4 p.m. at the New Sharon Mason Hall and the supper is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The Tin Man was created by Ron’s father, Jack Sawyer, a sheet metal fabricator.

NEW SHARON – In between the continuous tire fixing and making more appointments at the popular Pitcher Perfect Tire, Cory Chute, Josh Pitcher and Cherie Sadler have been working hard to organize a raffle, dinner and auction for Ron Sawyer, who is battling a brain tumor.

From left: DeAnne Douin, Tracy Boivin and Joe Douin at Douin’s Market is pitching in to help with the Sawyer benefit on Saturday.

The same can be said just up the road at the busy counter at Douin’s Market, where Joe and DeAnne Douin, along with Tracy Boivin, have also eagerly pitched in to help out with the Sawyer benefit to be held on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the New Sharon Mason Hall on Routes 2 & 27. The auction, to be led by crack auctioneer Adrian Harris, will begin at 4 p.m.

“We’re doing what we can to help the family out in this time of need,” Chute said. Ron Sawyer, son of Jack and Shirley Sawyer, grew up here. He served in the military and has a wife and children living in the Philippines. It’s an especially difficult time because Ron Sawyer is in Maine working through his treatment and his young family can’t be here with him.

The supper’s roast pig to be served up on Saturday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. was raised locally by Ron’s brother Jason, while another Sawyer brother, Mike, will be turning the spit as head chef. Fried turkeys, an array of fixings and desserts are also on the menu, which are all being donated by the large supportive community here. Organizers said an $8 donation for the supper will be gratefully accepted.

If that weren’t enough for one benefit, two home entertainment systems worth $2,800 each and donated by Pitcher Perfect Tire, will be raffled off with the drawing to be held on Jan. 23. Raffle tickets are $2 per and can be picked up at Pitcher Perfect or Douin’s Market or purchased at the supper.

“This is a whole community event with everyone reaching into their hearts to help this family,” Joe Douin said. Douin’s Market is also helping by providing cold food storage for volunteers dropping of their homemade best to be served at the supper. Boivin has also been running around picking up donations, both food and for the auction.

Donations, both large and small, are still needed for the auction. Already among the larger items up for bid is a cord of firewood and a large round bale of second crop hay the Davis Farm has donated to the cause. Anyone wishing to donate items for the auction can call 778-9699 or stop in at Pitcher Perfect Tire next to the Mason Hall. Chute said 100 percent raised during auction/supper and raffle will be given to the Sawyer family.

“They’re good people, very community oriented,” DeAnne Douin said of the Sawyers. All are hoping for a great turnout to help a great family.

“If just 50 percent of the people Jack and Shirley have helped over the years show up, it will be an incredible crowd,” Joe Douin added.
