Local businesses preparing for Maple Sunday

WILTON – If you’re looking for a lumberjack’s breakfast or curious about maple syrup, the Wilton area is the go-to region this Sunday.

The Wilton Group is showcasing Wilton-area sugar shacks on Sunday, March 24. Sugar shacks from around the area will be offering tours and meals that complement maple syrup. The tours are free with breakfasts costing $8 for adults and $5 for children.

The Wilton Group representative and Think Local First committee member Eileen Liddy said that the goal was to draw crowds to the region.

“We’re trying to get Wilton out there and let them know we have sugar houses,” Liddy said.

The Think Local First Committe is made up of Liddy, Susan Atwood, Julie Henderson, Melissa McEntee, Jeff Chaison, and Russell Black.

Black Acre Farms on 123 Black Road is participating. They are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.. They have tours, syrup tasting, and other syrup foods.

Hall farm on Route 2. They are open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offer an all you can eat pancake breakfast and tours from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m and offers free ice cream and maple syrup.

Long Drive Acres Maple Farm is on 319 Temple Road and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mystic Valley Maples is on Route 2 and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sweet Maple Farm on 391 Weld Road is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and features coffee, baked beans, pineapple, and ice cream all garnished with maple syrup.

The new farm this year is Sunrise Maple Farm on More Acre Road. They offer Waffle breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., tours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and t-shirts. One dollar from each transaction will be donated to breast cancer organizations.
