Maine celebrates its maple syrup on Sunday

7 mins read

Steam rolls out of the Maine Sugarworks saphouse on Taylor Hill in Strong late on a recent night. Although recent daytime temperatures have been favorable for sap production, nighttime lows have not been cold enough. “The next few days look good,” observed Rupert Pratt, who operates the River Run Farm saphouse on the South Strong Road. On Sunday, sugarmakers will throw open their sap house doors for Maine Maple Sunday on March 28 for this state’s annual rite of spring.

Attendees can expect to see how maple syrup is produced and many saphouses offer a free taste of freshly made syrup and other maple syrup treats. Other activities may include breakfast, wagon rides, sugarbush and farm tours, music and more.
