1 min read

More than 50 people march down Main Street in Farmington tonight in the 13th annual March for Violence-Free Communities. The march was followed by a group discussion and the Peace in Our Families’ Recognition Award presented to Police Chief Richard Caton, III of the Farmington Police Department and Officer Mary Hastings of the University of Maine Farmington’s Public Safety Department. The March is sponsored by Peace in Our Families, a collaboration between Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services, Inc., Abused Women’s Advocacy Project, the Healthy Community Coalition, Franklin County Children’s Task Force, and United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, University of Maine Farmington, and numerous local agencies and individuals. Organizers said the turnout demonstrates the community’s dedication and commitment to raising awareness about all forms of violence that affect individuals, families, and communities.
