Mt. Blue Theater students receive national attention

FARMINGTON – The talented performers at Mt. Blue High School recently received national recognition for their spring musical “Into the Woods” in the USA Weekend magazine Showstopper Musicals contest.

The show and its cast of students were awarded “Honorable Mention” for Maine and are featured on the USAWeekend.com Web site with other schools from all over the country. “Into the Woods,” the Sondheim musical based on the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, was presented in May of 2008 and directed by Debby Muise.

The musical direction was by Jane Parker with Steve Muise conducting the orchestra, set design by Debbi Hiltz and costumes by Deb Mason, who submitted the show for the contest.

Mt. Blue High School has a very active music and theater program and presents a large scale musical every other year.

The next production for the Mt. Blue musical stage will be performed in the spring of 2010.

The USA Weekend Showstopper Musical contest is held annually by the magazine to recognize and showcase the best high school musicals in the country, with the winning school receiving a trophy, a check for $1,000 and a featured article in the Sunday publication.
