OQUOSSOC – The Oquossoc ATV Club, in cooperation with the Roxbury ATV Club, has announced the opening of a new loop trail designed to connect two trail systems.

The establishment of the Elephant Mountain Loop provides an 80- or 100-mile loop, connecting the Oquossoc ATV Club trail and its recently established Park and Ride on the Bemis Track. It will allow travel as far south as Coos Canyon. Leaving the Turk Trail at the Bemis Mountain Trail provides an 80-mile loop; continuing on the Turk Trail provides the 100-mile loop to Coos Canyon.

Most of the trail is flat, with a more advanced section riding on the Devil’s Den Trail and Bemis Mountain Trail. Fuel access is not available at this time so riders should bring extra fuel.

The trail was recently used by the Roxbury ATV Club for a fundraiser for cancer research. On a recent night ride, 75 riders from the club raised $1,100 for the Maine Medical Center’s Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Maps, additional information, and club membership forms can be picked up at 150 Bemis Road, Rangeley Plantation, oqcatvclub@gmail.com, or by calling club president, Clyde Chapman, Jr. at (207) 239-7224.
