New restaurant to open in Fairbanks

2 mins read

FARMINGTON – Seafood and steak lovers, your prayers have been answered.

Two veterans of the restaurant industry, Barbara and Peter Benoit of Wilton, plan to open Peter’s Seafood and Steaks next month at 479 Fairbanks Road. They are currently renovating the building, which used to house the Log Cabin Restaurant and Quad M’s.

“Nothing really fancy,” Peter Benoit said, “just good steaks and seafood at a good price.”

Benoit, who worked for more than 13 years as a chef at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay, said that they plan to open the new eatery despite the grim economy and time of year. Barbara Benoit has worked in almost every aspect of the restaurant business, from waitress to bartender to hostess.

“We said ‘let’s try our own,'” Peter Benoit said, with a laugh. “We’ll fight all the odds, let’s give it a shot.”

Benoit said that Peter’s Seafood and Steaks does not currently plan on serving breakfast, but does plan on having luncheon and dinner menus. He also said that he planned on sticking to steak and seafood, “concentrating on what [they] have that’s good.” He noted that residents already could get sandwiches, pizza and the like at “any corner store.”

The restaurant will not have a bar, but plans on serving beer and wine with meals. The Benoits have applied for a liquor license with the Farmington board of selectmen, which will consider the matter at their Dec. 23 meeting.

Renovations have been ongoing in the old Log Cabin Restaurant, with utilities being turned on next Monday. Peter Benoit said that they hoped to open the restaurant in early January, but the extensive repairs to the building need to be completed first.

“There’s nothing on yet,” he said. “It’s really been run down.”

The exact opening date for Peter’s Seafood and Steaks will be posted on the Daily Bulldog when it is available. The restaurant is the second one announced to open in Franklin County in recent weeks, as Rocell and Thomas Marcellino of New Sharon, plan to serve Italian-American cuisine out of the former Boiler Room Restaurant in Wilton. They plan to call their newest venture “The Calzolaio Pasta Co.”
