CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The Spillway East Chairlift’s  final inspections and testing were completed and it went online at 1:54 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, nearly one month after deroping and dropping several chairs which sent eight people to the hospital.

Photographer Stephan Mitman of Strong, rode the chair four times today, Feb. 22 and it seemed very smooth, he said. The Sugarloaf lift maintenance crews added “a few new parts” in addition to replacing everything damaged in the accident in December. Sugarloaf spokesman Ethan Austin said the chairlift is, “operating like a new lift.”

“Riders were excited, positive, and in a great mood on the lift,” Mitman said. “The beautiful snow conditions, full sun, and short lift lines (for vacation week) also added to the overall festive mood on the mountain.”
