WILTON – Operation Santa Claus program is in full swing this season; filling requests, wrapping and delivering presents.

Operation Santa Claus is a program organized by the Western Maine Community Action, providing Christmas gifts for children aged 18 and under, and seniors aged 60 and over.

The program generally helps 500 middle- to low-income families annually, with families who need help filling out an application. The original deadline for applications was Nov. 15 but they extended it until Nov. 22.

“Right now we’re focusing on filling orders, wrapping presents and delivering them to families before Christmas,” WMCA Data Specialist Danielle Flannery said.

WMCA puts out Giving Trees throughout the community filled with requests for donations to Operation Santa Claus. Residents can pick something off of the tree that they want to donate.

“I know we’re putting the Trees out next week, they’re going to Walmart, Big Lots, Touch of Class, Bangor Savings Bank and Franklin Savings Bank. More are going out afterward,” Flannery said.

If someone from the community wants to help with Operation Santa Claus, the WMCA accepts monetary donations by mail or through their website. “They can set up an appointment to help wrap gifts, or help with deliveries as well,” Flannery said.

Operation Santa Claus is putting on an Ugly Christmas Sweater party at the Dugout, Dec. 14. Tickets are $10, and it covers a drink and a contest entry. VIP passes are available.

For more information, to set up an appointment, or to purchase tickets, call the WMCA at 1-800-645-9636 or (207) 645-3764, or email Bobbie-Jo Mealey at bjmealey@wmca.org.
