Pardon our pause: We’re improving the Bulldog

3 mins read

It’s hard for us to believe, but here at the Daily Bulldog we’re getting ready to celebrate our fourth anniversary of bringing news to our readers throughout Franklin County and beyond. In those four years we’ve seen an incredible increase in many things that matter greatly to us: Our readership, our advertisers and our contributors. The only drawback to all this growth is that we need to improve our website so it can handle this increased traffic. In doing so, our readers can easily post their comments, check the weather and also do a variety of other things our new and improved website will allow.

One option would have been to create a new, improved site while still maintaining our current one, but that would have involved losing the valued archives we have of the wonderful photographs, letters, columns and stories that both our readers and our writers have been providing since the Bulldog began. Rather than do that, we’re opting for Plan B: We’re going to shut down the Daily Bulldog for a few days, beginning on Monday, Jan. 17. We apologize for this inconvenience to all our readers and, of course, there will be no charge for these lost days to all our advertisers.

We expect to be back online delivering the news by Friday, Jan. 21, and hope the short pause will be worth the wait. You’ll recognize the new Bulldog when you see it next, but it will also be new and improved in many ways, with a slide show and will be ready for all your comments again (something we’ve badly missed). It will also be faster, and, as many of our readers asked for, be facebook friendly. But, most importantly, it will be designed to allow for its fast, continued growth for years to come.

We want to thank you all for your support over these past few years and also ask for your patience while the Bulldog is at the kennel getting groomed over the next few days. And we won’t be goofing off while the Bulldog is taking these furlough days — we’ll be working hard to make sure the new Daily Bulldog serves you all even better than it did before.
