1 min read

CHESTERVILLE – A small plane crash landed off of Egypt Pond Road today, with the single occupant suffering only minor injuries.

Authorities currently believe that Parker Tyler, 62, of Skowhegan, was piloting a single-engine float plane when it crashed into a wooded meadow roughly 400 feet from the Egypt Pond Road, near the Chesterville/Mount Vernon town line. That position is near the Egypt Pond’s boat access point, and Tyler may have been attempting to land on the pond when the incident occured.

Dispatchers received a report of the crash at 1:53 p.m. after Tyler waked out of the woods to flag down a passing motorist, with Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Chesterville and Mt. Vernon Fire Department personnel responding immediately to the area. A NorthStar ambulance also responded, but Tyler only suffered extremely minor injuries in the crash and was not transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital.

According to Chesterville Fire Department’s Matt Billian, fire crews worked quickly to isolate the scene, while police interviewed Tyler after he was checked out by NorthStar technicians. The state’s Department of Environmental Protection was also notified.

Emergency personnel cleared the scene at roughly 4:40 p.m. Further investigation will be conducted by the Federal Aviation Administration, as is the standard protocol in such incidents. The FAA is expected to be on the scene tomorrow morning.
