Emergency personnel work to extricate a Farmington woman whose vehicle went off the road after she apparently suffered a seizure.

WILTON – Police say that a Farmington woman suffered a seizure while driving along the Wilton Road today, sending her vehicle crashing into a fire hydrant and sliding down an embankment.

Police believe that Jill Robinson, 38, of Farmington, was traveling east on Route 2 and 4, heading toward Farmington, when she apparently suffered some type of seizure and loss consciousness. According to Wilton Police Officer Nicholas Oettinger, her passenger and mother, Peggy Mosher, 64, of Farmington, attempted to wake up Robinson and then grabbed the wheel but was unable to prevent the vehicle from going off the road.

The vehicle, a silver 2006 Jeep Liberty, veered off the right side of the road and struck a fire hydrant positioned near Athena’s Pizza Restaurant. The vehicle then twisted and slid down the embankment.

Police responded to the scene along with the Wilton Fire & Rescue Department, NorthStar Ambulance Service and personnel from the town’s Water Department. Oettinger said that Robinson had fully regained consciousness as she was taken from the scene.

Oettinger said that the hydrant was damaged in the impact as was the vehicle, which he estimated sustained roughly $5,000 in damage. Both airbags deployed, and both women were wearing their seatbelts. No injuries were sustained in the accident that Oettinger was aware of.

“That is the important thing,” he said. “Vehicles can be repaired, hydrants can be replaced. The important thing is everyone seems okay.”
