Severe weather alert: Expect a foot of snow

1 min read

Main Street Farmington this afternoon.

The first major snowstorm of the new year may be more major than originally advertised. According to to National Weather Service late this afternoon, Franklin County may be digging out from nearly a foot of fresh snow, thanks to a good ‘ol fashioned nor’easter that decided to move a little more inland than at first predicted.

Winds are causing widespread blowing snow and outages were reported by Central Maine Power Co. in a few Maine counties but not Franklin County.

Snow may linger and winds will diminish into Thursday morning. Although a nuisance, this is good news for the ski areas of western Maine.
