Fire fighters work to extinguish the blaze at 464 Pond Road in Strong. Three dogs perished in the fire.

STRONG – No one was home when fire broke out and destroyed a mobile home at 464 Pond Road just after noon today.

Acting Fire Chief Duayne Boyd said the Strong Fire Department got the call at 12:20 p.m. and on arrival found the home fully engulfed. “We could see flames,” he added. Mutual aid from New Portland, Temple, Farmington, Phillips and New Vineyard, helped extinguish the blaze within an hour but the small mobile home was completely gutted.

Alan Baston and Lisa Barden were living at the residence; their three dogs perished in the fire.

The fire appeared to have stared at the center of the structure where a woodstove was situated, but the exact cause will wait for a state’s fire marshal investigator tomorrow morning.

The Red Cross has been contacted to help the couple with their immediate needs. The home was insured, fire fighters said.
