Summer Fest schedule of events

FARMINGTON – The town’s annual summer street festival will kick off Friday, with a new name and new events.

The successor to Strawberry Festival and, before that, Moonlight Madness, Summer Fest offers an expanded offering of events in the downtown on July 30 and July 31. It will also feature residents’ and visitors’ favorite past events, like Art in the Park, St. Luke’s lobster rolls, the Firemen’s barbecue and the road race.

Friday, July 30:
7-11 a.m. ~ Drop off flower arrangement entries for Flower Show & Contest at 107 Church Street.

9 a.m. ~ Opening remarks & Kick Off at Festival Stage on Broadway with Tom Saviello as emcee.
~ Crafters, Food and Demos underway on Broadway. Featured: gemstone cutting, blacksmithing, chair-making and pottery by local artists. Booths include Clearwater Veterinary Hospital, the Franklin County Animal Shelter, Healthy Maine Coalition and strawberry short cake. Watch merchants for specials.
~ Music all day.

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. ~ Farmers’ Market on Front Street.

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ~ The Fire of 1886 exhibit by Historical Society at Old North Church.

11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ~ Lobster Rolls by St. Luke’s Church at Meetinghouse Park.

11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ~ Art in the Park by Upcountry Artists.

12 p.m. to 12 a.m. ~ Tennis Marathon at Hippach Field.

9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ~ An array of Music & Arts on the Festival Stage.

2 p.m. ~ Floral Demonstration by Richards Florist at 107 Church Street.

3 p.m. ~ Mason Strunk & Co. will sing a Tribute to Jud Strunk on the Festival Stage. Bring a chair.

3-7:30 p.m. ~ Pie on the Porch at the Holman Parish House. Favorite pies and old fashioned desserts made locally.

4-5:30 p.m. ~ Festival Fun Blast Off with Sue Jones; Stump the Postmaster with Farmington postmaster; the Great American Twist; and other crowd pleasing games. Bring a chair.

4-6 p.m. ~ Firemen’s Chicken BBQ, Main Street.

4:30 p.m. ~ Annual Roadrace Registration at corner of High Street and Broadway

5:30 p.m. ~ Children’s 1-mile Roadrace

6:15 p.m. ~ 5K Race

7-9 p.m. ~ Street Dance featuring Shepherd’s Pie

Saturday, July 31:

9 a.m.-1 p.m. ~ Kid Events, such as, bean bag toss, water carrying race, marshmallow game, cow-milking challenge and face painting at the Pierce House and Henderson Baptist Church lawns, Main Street. Free. Light refreshments. Prizes.

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ~ Board games at Meetinghouse Park Gazebo.

9 a.m. ~ Farmers’ Market at Courthouse.

10:30-11:45 a.m. ~ Summer Fun Kid’s Parade Workshop at Henderson Baptist Church, Main Street. Make a hat, instrument or decorate your bike. Supplies provided.

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. ~ The Fire of 1886 exhibit by Historical Society at Old North Church.

12 p.m. ~ The Summer Fun Kid’s Parade led by Unicycle Max, line-up 11:45 a.m. at the Old South Congregational Church on Main Street. Children with helmets and adult supervision are welcome to ride their bikes. Come early to prepare. Tickets awarded for participation and spirit!

10-11:30 a.m. ~ Fly Fishing Demonstration by Bob Dionne of Aardvark Outfitters at Rollo Pond in Abbott Park

12 p.m. to 12 a.m. ~ Tennis Marathon at Hippach Field
