Wilton fun: Fishing derby today, street dance & more

An activity of Wilton’s 3rd Thursday summer festivals, this one with the theme of “Island Adventure,” included a fishing derby from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the foot of Wilson Lake. At left, Alex Mayhew, 6, reels in his fishing rod’s line for another cast, as his sister, Ella Mayhew, 6, keeps an eye out for fish. 


Alex Mayhew, 6, reels in for another cast at the Third Thursday fishing derby held today. Tonight’s entertainment will include country music with the Larry Wright Band from 6-7 p.m., and a street dance with DJ Chris from 7-9 p.m., with music and dancing for all ages. Bradley’s Pizza 5-year anniversary: look for specials all night; Minute to Win It Games, 50/50 raffle, crafters/vendors, antique cars, children’s fun corner, tours of Bass Building and Museum, Dutch Treat and dinner at the local restaurants.

Their parents Nick and Tammy Mayhew were helping out nearby with worm and detanglement duties. Several prizes for various catch times and sizes and children’s ages will be awarded. Prizes were donated by area businesses. This is the final Third Thursday of the summer. Organizer Stacey Damon said the Third Thursday festivals did very well, in its second year, with lots of families participating.
