FARMINGTON – A 33-year-old woman was injured this morning when the pickup truck she was driving ran off the road and struck two trees. Police said she swerved to avoid hitting a cat crossing Morrison Hill Road.

Farmington police and fire crews were called to the scene of the single vehicle crash at 9:45 a.m. The driver, Nicole Toothaker of North Jay, was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar EMS ambulance. She was treated and released later today, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

“She said she was coming down Morrison Hill Road from the Wilton end, came up on a curve in the road and saw a cat crossing,” said Farmington Police Officer Matthew Brann. “She swerved to miss it, ran into the ditch, slammed on her breaks and hit the tree.”

The air bag was deployed as the truck’s front end collided and buckled around two large white pine tree trunks. A truck driver who witnessed the crash said the pickup truck wasn’t going very fast along the secondary road when it went off the pavement.
