A call for artists: Deadline Friday

EAST WILTON – Western Maine Community Action is inviting artists from Androscoggin, Oxford and Franklin counties participate in the “Comfort, Woe and Wonder” Exhibit at the administrative building at 20A Church Street in East Wilton.

Our first exhibit, “The Art of Community Action” has been a great success. If any of you haven’t seen it, please stop by any day from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. It is our intention to include as many artists as possible. We request each artist submit one to four of your original works to be displayed. There is no fee, and no jury. The exhibit will include artists in order of their response.

To indicate your interest is participating, please e-mail art@wmca.org by Oct. 1. The space is limited, so respond earlier if you can. Provide a description, the dimensions and medium of your submission(s). We can only accept wall hung work. If a digital images of your chosen pieces are available, please e-mail us a copy for promotional use. Artist’s contact information and prices will be available to the public during the exhibit. Any sales will be conducted between the customer and artist. No commission will be charged, but a voluntary donation of 5 to 10 percent of any sale to a WMCA program of the artist’s choice is requested. “Comfort” – soothe, console, reassure, calm, relieve, ease, placate, security, contentment

“Woe” – anguish, affliction, sadness, despair, misery, wretchedness

“Wonder” – miracle, speculate, doubt, question, marvel, awe, amazement

The Administrative Building of WMCA is a former schoolhouse and quite old. Display space will be in the grand foyers and conference rooms. This is not a gallery space. Support the local arts, and participate by exhibiting in this exciting new venue. Artist participation is vital to the success of this effort. It is the Agency’s intention to host three exhibits per year.

Visitors, board members, staff, clients and community partners frequent the building. The exhibit will be available for public view in the foyers during all regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 to 4:30 p.m. When conference rooms are in use, that part of the exhibit will not be available. No WMCA staff person is assigned to watch the exhibit. Staff will be aware of any public in the building, and a receptionist is on duty the majority of the time.

IMPORTANT DATES: Immediately Indicate Commitment to Participate. Mon, Tue or Thurs, 10/18, 10/19 or 10/21, deliver work for exhibit, 8 am to 4:30 pm. October 28, 2010, reception from 5 to 7pm. February, 2011, pick up work. For more information, or to indicate your interest, e-mail art@wmca.org.
