Annual work day planned for park cleanup

STRONG – The annual spring cleanup day for the Lance Corporal Scott Paul Town Park in Strong, Maine has been scheduled for Saturday, May 1st. The cleanup day will start at 9:00 a.m. and will continue throughout the day. In case of rain the date will move to the following day May 2nd.

The Park is maintained primarily by a Park Committee who works throughout the year to raise money for maintenance and upgrade needs. The spring cleanup readies the park for all to use and preps for the summer children’s program that is also staffed and administered by volunteers.

This Park was carved from the woods and has expanded tremendously since the first tree fell 18 years ago. Playground equipment for all ages has been created and is used daily. Five Boy Scouts became Eagle Scouts through projects that they did in the Park. Birthday and wedding parties take place on a regular basis. All of this because of volunteerism that spreads much further than the volunteers from Strong.

This year’s cleanup will include some preparation for the latest project around the Richard Parker Memorial and the “Stairway to Freedom’. Both Richard Parker and Scott Paul were young men when they were killed while serving our country in overseas operations.

Please bring rakes, shovels, chainsaws, etc. and help us start the summer off with the Park ready for all to enjoy. Fresh air and friendship are available for all to enjoy.
