Arrest friends, co-workers and help fight cancer

FARMINGTON – The local police department will be making some unorthadox arrests Wednesday, as residents raise money to fund cancer research.

Farmington Police Department will be picking up wrong-doers (recommended offenses include “working too hard”) and taking them to a portable jail set up at Rollo Pond, next to the University of Maine at Farmington’s Robert’s Learning Center. The “arrest” will result in a nominal donation, according to FPD representative Bonnie Pomeroy, and once the “criminal” is in jail, he or she will make phone calls to try and match the original donation.

If they can’t raise bail, they have to stay for the whole hour. All funds raised will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

The event will be held between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., May 26. Pomeroy said people are welcome to come down to Rollo Pond, and that they might “be surprise who they see.”

Anyone interested in participating in the event, or setting up an arrest, can call the Farmington Police Department at 778-6311.
